Staying Positive

I am reposting this. It is from 2009, I believe.
My reminder to focus on the positives, keep the negatives in "perspective" and to not take things "too seriously" (as Ed always told me).

******************************************************************************
I have many "motivators" hanging in my office: my bulletin board is full of various comics, slogans; Andy Andrew's "Seven Decisions for Success" hangs on my wall; the Washington Wild Thing hangs on my door, a Patrick Stewart READ poster greets me everyday... Something that I "see" everyday, but hadn't really "read" lately, caught my eye on Friday. Today, I am taking the time to reread it and wanted to share it.

I believe it is an "ad" from a magazine for the "Don't Sweat the..." series of books. It is copied on bright pink paper and hangs on my filing cabinet. I have had it for a very long time. It is a smiling, stick figure with our daily "reminders" written from head to "toe" around the figure.

Those reminders are:

- Think about what you have, not only what you want.
- Look for the extraordinary in the ordinary.
- Breathe before you speak.
- Learn to live in the present moment.
- Make peace with imperfection.
- Be happy where you are.
- Do one thing at a time.
- Choose being kind over being right.
- Schedule time for your inner work.
- Listen better.
- Set aside quiet time, every day.

And, of course, "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff": "with your family" and "at work".

Lately, as I find it more difficult to stay positive, I am reminding myself to look around for the reminders...they are there.

To not let the "Pollyanna's" or negative energy "win". They will always be there...
