As we have been working to get everyone on the same page with regards to the concept of a new "model" of library services for our region, one of the questions we brainstormed was "describe the ideal library". If you could create a new library concept, what would it be?
Well, the folks in Adams County Colorado have done just that! Their new "style of library" and "philosophy" is called Anythink.
I recently became aware of Anythink while working on the pre-conference details for the October 2010 ARSL Conference. I couldn't believe it--it is ideas put to action!
Here is Anythink in a nutshell: "The Anythink model was designed to help libraries remain relevant by offering more than just books to their customers. They offer innovative programming, technology, and the highest level of customer service so that everyone who walks into an Anythink feels welcome."
(from their website: http://www.anythinklibraries.org/introducing-anythink-new-style-library)
Sign me up! Do they have any openings?
Or, better yet--how do we follow their lead in our region, in our state?
The best way to predict the future is to invent it, indeed!
I will keep you posted on Anythink. One of the pre-conference offerings for ARSL includes a tour to two Anythink branch libraries; presentations by the architectural firm; the branch manager and a film about the Anythink concept.
